Mathematical Activities

Mathematical Activities is a set of two CDs designed to improve the level of mathematical thinking of young users and to improve their computing skills. CD 1 has 125 activities and CD 2 has 78 activities and a problem-solving course with eight groups of activities designed for ages 10 and above. Most of the activities have an associated worksheet on the respective CD.

The activities provide:

Virtual concrete materials that may be used if needed. These provide a context and add to motivation and relevance.
An environment that requires the user to be actively involved with objects and numbers.
Feedback at an appropriate level - smiley faces for early activities where reading may be a problem, text that requires an examination of responses for older children.
Open-ended exploratory environments that enable the user to explore patterns, strategies and relationships.
Colourful graphics.

A piece of software known as a plugin must be downloaded and installed to run the activities. Click the Plugin link in the navigation bar to download the plugin. Choose the MicroWorlds EX plugin for your computer(s). This will also enable you to run some of the activities online.
